Relationships with Food

We all have relationships with food even if we don’t realize it. These relationships can be good and bad. Several fat farms aim to sabotage participants’ bad relationships with food. It is not an easy feat though.

There are several signs of an unhealthy relationship with food. The first is eating binges. Eating binges are a bad habit to start and a hard one to break. Bulimia is defined as an eating disorder where people binge and purge on a regular basis. The consequences of this disorder can be deadly. This is why several specialists who work at fat farms do what they do for a living. They want there to be less preventable death related to food. Another sign that a person has an unhealthy relationship with food is if they have several rules when it comes to the subject. This obsessive behavior is not good and can lead to anorexia or bulimia. Fat farms promote a normal amount of exercise. Excessive exercising is another sign of an unhealthy relationship with food. This shows that people are either overeating a lot or may have an eating disorder. Distorted body image is another sign of both an unhealthy relationship with food and an eating disorder.

People have normal relationships when it comes to food too. We often gather around food to socialize. This is completely normal. Fat farms encourage eating at the dinner table because it is what a table is for. People are supposed to converse with each other while they eat. A lot of people think of where they grew up as a result of a food or vice versa. Italian families tend to eat a lot of bread and pasta. These kinds of foods can cause people to gain weight easily and are discouraged at fat farms. A way to turn this negative into a positive is to eat whole grain breads and pastas although it isn’t the original Italian way. This is just a minor adjustment that can make a major difference. The same goes for Cajun people that love to eat jambalaya. If you substitute whole grain rice for white rice, the dish is much healthier.

All in all, everyone has some kind of a relationship with food. Specialists and fat farms alike stress that isn’t always a bad thing!
