People can be fairly judgmental about people attempting to lose a lot of weight. They must be lazy, those programs never work, this “fat camp” is just a cover for people with weak willpower. These opinions are certainly out there, but many are not well informed about how much a fitness retreat can truly transform a person’s life.

Controlled Environment Keeps Distractions Down

It’s hard to argue that a setting has some tremendous benefits. Outside distractions are kept to a minimum. No eating out, no depressed evenings alone with a bunch of junk food, no fast food restaurants to stop by. A person trying to lose weight can stay focused on the program they are working through. That’s not to say they won’t have temptations and food cravings, which would be normal and expected. But the “quick fixes” they are used to won’t be there to break their positive attempts at controlling their weight.

Reality and Support Around The Clock

When those cravings come and the usual snack or comfort food isn’t there to soothe the urge, what does a person do? Something different than before – that’s where the 24 hour support is invaluable. Instead of going way off track with cravings and bad habits, people can seek support to get through those difficult times.

In many cases, overeating has strong emotional underpinnings. Depression, anxiety, low self worth, and many other emotional problems are often managed with food.

When a support person can cut through the surface-level desires for food, many aspects of reality can be revealed. Someone may start understanding the depression they’ve felt for a long time. Others may have been given food automatically as a child when they felt bad and taught few other coping skills. Whatever the reality is, reality with a good dose of well-timed support can help the destructive cycle come undone.

Not everyone can do this kind of difficult emotional work alone. Support of this type is more than just cheering someone up – it is getting to the ugly truth that’s been hiding under the food for a long time. Once someone can separate their feelings from their food, they have a much better chance of making healthy eating choices and doing more appropriate things to manage their emotional issues.

Do Fitness Retreats Really Work?

Yes, they certainly can for many people. But just like quitting smoking or going through drug treatment, people fall back and make mistakes. They underestimate the depth of their problems and think they don’t have to pay much attention any more. That’s a very human thing.

People who are willing to learn from their mistakes can really use what they got out of their experience to get them back on track soon. Don’t dismiss the value of fitness retreats so quickly the next time you hear about one. They build healthy lifestyles one person at a time.

    I desperately want to come to a 21 day retreat!!!!! I can’t wait to find out all the details so I can start working on the financial end of things. So very excited, hope it works out for me.

    I’ve been needing to lose 40 for 20 years, but is that enoughg to bother going to a spa? My husband says its “not that much” so why pay someone when I should have done it long ago. I say because obvoiusly I have issues or habits I can’t break or I would have lost it long ago. I can run a marathon but I can walk, bike or swim. Can you help?

    im so ready to make this change in my life !!!! it’s long over due . with so much down fall and hurt i’ve went thru i failed to see where i had even began to go wrong ,and i want to be around for my children as well as myself. I’m getting married in 2yrs ,and i have to be a healthy ,and beautiful bride .. cant wait to come down And begin and meet the new me
